Elmer Lee ConquestDecember 24, 1944 ~ October 28, 2017 (age 72)
Elmer Lee Conquest, 72 of Delmar, Delaware entered this life on December 24, 1944 to the late Nelson Ames and Hazel Harmon. The Lord called our beloved Elmer home on Saturday, October 28, 2017.
Elmer’s elementary education was received in the Melfa, Virginia Public School System and the Phillip C. Showell Elementary School in Selbyville, DE.
On October 3, 1965, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Johnie Mae Jones and together they were blessed with four children; Catherine, Ella, Elbert and Hazel. Elmer and Johnie recently celebrated 52 years of marriage.
After his employment with Jim Swan, Elmer began a lifelong career in the poultry industry as a “Chicken Catcher” for H&H, Mountaire, and Townsend’s Poultry divisions until his retirement.
His Christian education was received at Calvary Pentecostal Church, Incorporated in Bishopville, Maryland serving under the leadership of Pastor Rosie M. Hall. Elmer was a faithful member until his passing. He would sit quietly in the services of the Lord being very observant and would always greet you with a smile followed by a little sense of humor. One of his favorite gospel songs was “Be Right” by Keith Wonderboy Johnson.
Elmer was an avid worker and loved working on anything that had wheels. He also loved landscaping and mowing lawns. He was an all-around handyman, you name it..he could do it! Little did we know, he was a man of many thoughts and few words but he was a jack of all trades, he could do anything that he put his mind to do!
He loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Nyeisha Spence, two sisters; Louise and Rose Sample.
He leaves to cherish fond memories his loving wife of 52 years Johnie M. Conquest of Delmar, DE; four children, Catherine Conquest , Ella (Larry) Douglas both of Delmar, DE., Elbert Conquest of Salisbury, MD., and Hazel (Devene) Spence also of Delmar, DE. Five sisters: Catherine (Willie) Davis, of Georgetown, DE., Doris Showell of Lincoln, DE., Yvonne Morris, of North Carolina, Anna Ames of Bridgeville, DE., Mary Nelson, of Parsonburg, MD. Three brothers: Raymond (Jill) Sample, of Harrington, DE., Edward Ames, of Millsboro, DE and Bill Hargett. Numerous in- laws and a host of extended family and friends. In addition, Elmer leaves his two very special canine family members, Carmello and Ruby.
A Celebration of Life service will he held on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., Calvary Pentecostal Church, Bishopville, Maryland. Family and friends may call for viewing and visitation one hour prior to service, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Assistant pastor, Sharon Williams, will be officiating and Pastor Rosie M. Hall will be the eulogist. Interment will immediately follow the service in the Calvary Pentecostal Cemetery.
