Laverne (Atkins) HarmonDecember 26, 1939 ~ June 5, 2017 (age 77)
Mrs. Laverne Harmon, “Plunk”, as she was affectionately known to her family and friends of Frankford, DE passed away on Monday, June 5, 2017. She was 77 years old.
Mrs. Harmon was born on December 26, 1939 to the late Edward K. and Essie Lee Walker Atkins. In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by her husband Charles Monroe Thomas Harmon in 2016, her brother Harvey Lee Atkins in 2017 and her grandson Gregory K. Showell, II in 1988.
She retired from Townsends, Inc now known as Mountaire Farms, where she worked as a technician for many years. Laverne was a honorary member of the Trinity Faith Christian Center in Lewes. She loved watching TV, especially the soap operas and the Steve Harvey Show. She could cook, not sure she loved to, but everybody else loved and really enjoyed her cooking. Laverne will be remembered as a good Christian woman who was devoted to her family and will be missed by all who knew her.
She leaves behind three children, Jacqueline Laverne Harmon Purnell and her husband William of Woodbridge, VA; Janet L. Showell and her husband Gregory of Frankford, DE; and Kevin T. Harmon and his wife Hillary also of Frankford, DE and a sister, Phyllis Atkins of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; five grandchildren, Byron, Janelle (Rashawn), Shawntelle, Kevon and Kemeah ; four great grandchildren, Rashad, Jaela, Byron, Jr. and Raegan. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at the Trinity Faith Christian Center, 15516 New Rd, Lewes, DE 19958, where friends may call from 10 AM – 11 AM for viewing and visitation. A private burial will be held on Monday where Mrs. Harmon will be laid to rest with her husband at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
