Robert J. Collins

Mr. Robert “Bob” J. Collins of Gumboro, DE passed away surrounded by his family on Monday, July 24, 2017.  He was 80 years old.

 

Mr. Collins was born in Gumboro, DE to the late James N.  and Georgia Anna Daisey Collins.  In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by three brothers, Paul, Carmel and Floyd Collins, and two sisters, Darlene Collins and Elsie Boyce.

 

Bob worked as a general contractor alongside of his brother, Gerald Collins for 37 years.  He was a lifetime member of the Gumboro Volunteer Fire Co. and attended the Gumboro United Methodist Church.   He enjoyed listening to blue grass music and loved playing the Dobro.    Bob was a family oriented man who loved kidding and carrying on, going to yard sales, and building crafts.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

 

He is survived by his devoted wife of  61 years, Evelyn Marie Dukes Collins of Gumboro, DE; four children, Bruce Collins and his wife Jo Ann of Laurel, DE; Steve Collins and his wife Lisa of Gumboro, DE; Sharon Baker and her husband Darryl of Gumboro, DE and Jeff Collins and his companion Katrina Kruger of Gumboro, DE; two brothers, Donald Collins and his wife June of Millsboro, DE and  Gerald Collins and his wife Dorothy of Gumboro, DE; two sisters, Betty Rust and her husband Everett of Millsboro, DE and Carol Murray of Georgetown, DE.  He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Jason Collins (Shannon), Vance Collins (Sabrina), Blake Collins (Corey), Brandon Collins (Amanda),  Jim Collins (Kate), Kyle Collins (Sarah), Suzanne Riddle  (Jason), and Julie Collins(James); along with six great grandchildren, his canine companion Brandy  and  extended family members and friends.

 

A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2017 from 6 PM – 8 PM at the Watson Funeral Home.  The funeral and burial will be private.

 

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE  19963 or the Gumboro United Methodist Church, c/o Edith Rickards, 34922 Peartree Road, Millsboro, DE  19966.
