Hudson, Ruth S.

Ruth S. Hudson, 85 of Apex, North Carolina, formerly of Dagsboro, Delaware, died early Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at the Hospice House of Wake County, Raleigh, North Carolina.

Ruth was born in 1924 in Philadelphia, PA; She was the Fifth child of Genesis and Margaret Shockley. In 1945 she married Pearl Harbor survivor, William L. Hudson and they enjoyed a wonderful 50 years together until his death in 1995.

Ruth always was an active Christian, teaching Sunday school classes to young children, assisting churches with youth events, pot lucks and women's circles. Former church families include Chambers Memorial Presbyterian Church, Rutledge, PA, St. George's United Methodist Church, Clarksville, DE and Dagsboro Church of Christ, Dagsboro, DE. Since her move to NC, she was active in the "Closer Walk" class at White Plains United Methodist Church, Cary and the "Sonshine Circle" at Brooks Ave. Church of Christ, Raleigh. She was a member of the Friendship Chapter 551, Order of the Eastern Star, PA.

Ruth loved country music, crocheting, reading and especially bragging about her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to anyone within distance. She was extremely proud of having been a "stay at home" mother raising her family. However most of all she was proud of being a Christian.

She is survived by six children: Bill Hudson of Lake Wales, FL, Dottie Hudson of Boothwyn, PA, Robert Hudson of Brookhaven, PA, Dolores Waters of Royal Palm Beach, FL, Ruthann Smith of Apex, NC and Tom Hudson of Wilmington, DE. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be 11 A.M. on Saturday, June 26, at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 S Washington Street, Millsboro, Delaware where friends may call at 10 AM. Dr. Stephen Hokus will officiate the service. Interment will follow at the St. George's United Methodist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Hospice of Wake County, Inc., 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607
