Genevieve M. “Gene” Langhorst, age 79, of Millsboro, Delaware, formerly of Gaithersburg and Rockville, MD and Yonkers, NY passed on Monday, July, 19, 2010 at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, Delaware. Mrs. Langhorst was born on November 27, 1930 in Yonkers, New York to the late Newton DeWitt and Catherine Keenan LeFevre.
Gene was educated at the Blessed Sacrament Academy in Yonkers, Katharine Gibbs School in NYC, and attended the school of General Studies of Columbia University. She was president of her High School Alumnae, a member of the Junior Assembly of Yonkers, and Treasurer of the Young Women’s Republican Club of Yonkers.
Mrs. Langhorst was a member of Mary Mother of Peace R.C. Church, Millsboro, Delaware. She had been a past president of the Sussex County Republican Women’s Club and Millsboro Women’s Civic Club, Sussex County membership chairman of the DSFWC, treasurer of the mace and gavel unit of the NAP, and a member of the Columbiettes #11285.
Gene married her teenage sweetheart William J. Langhorst in 1963 and they were together until his death in February 2000. She worked for several companies before joining IBM, White Plains, NY in January 1958 and retired from IBM, Bethesda, MD in January 1989 as an analyst.
She is survived by her son William J. Langhorst, Jr. and his wife Alice E. of Arlington, Virginia and many cousins and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 AM, Monday, July 26th at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, 202 Edward Street, Georgetown, Delaware where friends may call at 10 AM. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
Friends may also call Sunday from 4-6:00 PM with a Rosary Service at 5 PM offered at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 S Washington, Street, Millsboro, Delaware.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for memorial contributions be made to St Michael the Archangel Parish, 202 Edward Street, Georgetown, DE 19947
