Obituary for Catherine Johnson

Catherine Johnson, of Dagsboro, was called to her eternal rest on August 4, 2017. Catherine, daughter of the late Irvin and Beulah Ross Johnson, was born in Pocomoke, Maryland on February 16, 1939.

“Mom” and “Mom-Mom”, as she was affectionately called, received her formal education in the public school system of Worcester County, Maryland. Catherine was a hard worker. Prior to her illness, she was employed at Showell’s Poultry, Bishopville, Maryland; Shangrilla and Seahawk Motels, Ocean City, Maryland; and Vlasic Pickles, Millsboro, Delaware.

Catherine loved traveling and visiting family and friends. She also loved to cook and opened the doors of her home to anyone that needed a place to lay their head. She was devoted to her church family, Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, Selbyville, Delaware and a faithful member. Some of her favorite songs were “May the Work I’ve Done, Speak for Me” and “Pass Me Not Oh Gentle Savior.”

Catherine was preceded in death by her seven brothers: Ellis Johnson, Garfield Webster, Will Johnson, Steve Johnson, David Johnson, Rufus Johnson and John Johnson; and two sisters, Viola Johnson and Ocie Mae Copes; one daughter, Shirley Lee Johnson; one granddaughter, Tynaisha Johnson; and one great-granddaughter, Kayla Taylor.

She leaves to cherish fond memories: three daughters, Vera (Michael) Richards of Seaford, Delaware, Evalene Johnson of Dagsboro, Delaware and Lisa (Bruce) Northan of Laurel, Delaware; two sons, Calvin Johnson and Pam Davis of Frankford, Delaware and Morgan (Ebony) Johnson of Harrington, Delaware; one special son, Lemuel Handy; two special daughters, Charlotte Johnson and Valerie Marshall; two sisters, Agnes Mumford of Frankford, Delaware and Stella Johnson of Salisbury, Maryland; 12 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild;  a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended family and friends.
