Mr. Charles Edward Graves of Millsboro, DE and formerly of Wilmington, DE and Florida passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Friday, May 5, 2017. He was 89 years old.
Charles was born in Ashland, DE on February 3, 1928 to the late Lemuel and Viola Edler Graves. In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his wife of 70 years Marion C. Graves on January 16, 2017 as well as 5 siblings.
Charles retired from Hercules Research Center as Grounds Foreman in 1983 after 30 years of service. He was a WWII Army Veteran. Charles was a member of Bethany Community Church in Laurel, DE and a past member of the Elsmere Fire Co. in Elsmere, DE; Masons, Lions Club, and Master of Independent Order of the Odd Fellows. He enjoyed model trains, cooking, fishing, boating, camping and spending time with his family. The boy left the farm however the farming never left him; he enjoyed riding on his John Deere tractor cutting his grass. He also liked solving the world’s problems with his good friend Jack from Buffalo, NY.
Charles is survived by his two sisters Mildred Beeson of Smyrna, DE and Betty Graves of Magnolia, DE; as well as his five children, Sandra L. Graves of Millsboro, DE; Janice M. Vickers and her husband William H. III of Millsboro, DE; Charles L. Graves and his wife Beverly of Georgetown, DE; Marion “Patty” Graves and her partner John Woznicki of Wilmington, DE and Deborah A. Hoover and her husband Robert T. Jr. of Wilmington, DE; 10 grandchildren, Billy, Tina, Kate, Lenny, Kirtis, John, Michael, Jesse, Bobby and Amber, along with 18 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild on the way. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 12:30 PM on Monday, May 15, 2017 at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, DE 19966, where friends may call from 11:30 – 12:30 for visitation with the family. Inurnment with military honors will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
