Obituary of Daniel Bruce Short

Daniel Bruce Short, 63, of Millsboro, DE passed away at home in the care of his wife and Vitas Hospice on March 9, 2018, after a prolonged illness and difficult battle.   He was born on August 18, 1954 in Seaford, DE to the late William Henry Short, and Doris Elaine Emory Short, who survives him.  He married Brenda Lee Johnson on Dec. 10, 1994 in Federalsburg, MD.  He was an “over the road” trucker, and had attended College, and volunteered with the Millsboro Fire Company as a firefighter and EMT. He also took training at the Delaware State Fire School.  His career as a trucker, and service with the Fire Company were cut short by failing health and disability.  He was devoted to his family, liked fishing, and hunting, and was a NASCAR fan.  He liked to watch the little league World Series.  He loved the Millsboro Fire Company.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Lee Short and his mother: Doris Short.  He is also survived by his four sisters: Robin Mears, of Seaford; Sue Buckle (Wayne) of Salisbury, MD; Joyce Ami, of Millsboro; and Connie Atkinson, of Millsboro.  He is also survived by a brother: Ronald Short (Patricia), also of Millsboro, and sisters-in-law: Wanda Freedman, and husband Paul, of Chesapeake City, MD; Dianna Sears, and husband Wayne, of Seaford, DE; Christina Johnson, of Newark, DE and brothers-in-law: Paul Jeffrey Johnson, and his wife Jackie, of Virginia Beach, VA; Daniel “Danny” Johnson, of Greenwood, DE; and Timothy Johnson, of Felton, DE.  He also leaves behind his beloved mother-in-law: Rose Johnson, of Seaford, DE.   In addition, he is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and a special friend, “Bill” and his beloved feline friend, “Audie.”   Daniel was proud of his nephew, Greg Short, who currently serves as an Assistant Chief, at the Millsboro Fire Company.

In honor of his last request, a Memorial Service is planned for Sunday, March 25, 2018 at 1:00 PM in the Millsboro Fire Station, 109 E. State Street in Millsboro, DE.  Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests assistance with contributions to help offset medical and final expenses through the “GO FUND ME” account:,  or with memorial contributions to the Millsboro Vol. Fire Company, P.O. Box 83, Millsboro, DE 19966.
