Della Mae Drew departed this earthly life very peacefully with her brother right by her side 3:34 PM on Friday, July 19, 2019 at Cadia Healthcare Renaissance Nursing Home, Millsboro, DE. She was born in Clarksville, DE on November 11, 1935 to the late William H. Hall and Josephine L. Harris Deloach.
Della Mae received her education during her childhood years at Blackwater School in Clarksville and later attend Frankford 206. Known to her family and friends as “Aunt Dell”, she always held a job working as a domestic worker at various local motels/hotels, line worker up to a manager for Bunting Nursery in Selbyville, assisting her late husband Albert Drew (Cub) with his trash-collection business, helping her niece clean summer rentals at the beach during the summer and as a baby-sitter for her last “child” Devin before officially retiring.
At an early age she joined Union Wesley United Methodist Church in Clarksville, DE. While she was at home she was very supportive of the church. At one time she had a key and would open up the church, turn the heat and lights on to prepare the church for Sunday morning worship or anything else that was needed. She also kept an eye out on the church and the grounds to see what was going on, and who was coming and going especially during camp meeting time. Aunt Dell enjoyed sitting on the porch listening to what was going on back on the camp ground and every else around Dogpatch. Her porch was the ideal spot to see all who entered and exited the town!
Everyone who knew Aunt Dell knew that she was very out spoken! She had a personality that was larger than life; if a thought came in her mind it came out of her mouth with absolutely no filter! You never had to guess what Aunt Dell thought about anyone or anything because she sure would tell you! She will be sorely missed for: shooting her shotgun on New Year’s Eve, cussing out anyone who played an April Fool’s joke on her, cooking all sorts of good food including old food like musk rat and chitterlings, putting anyone in his/her place when she thought it was needed and showing that she could dance better than anybody else in the world!
Cherishing the memories of Aunt Dell are her brother and sister in law James (Joe Benny) and Vanessa Deloach of Millsboro, DE. Her nieces and nephews “known to her as her children” Rosalind L. Lockwood-Brooks and Sidney of Abingdon, MD; Franchita Eborn and Early of Ft. Washington, MD; Marcea Redden of Fruitland, MD; Michael and Jakeysia Snead of Millsboro, DE; Jaireece Hobbs of Berlin, MD; Jeremy Jones of Bridgeville, DE and Devin Deloach of Millsboro, DE. A god-daughter, Cheryl Harris-Holland, of Millsboro, DE and a god son Bernard Flammer of New York, one sister-in-law, Mrs. Loretta Chowdury of Dover, DE, five grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and last but not least Vitas Hospice and the wonderful staff of Cadia Healthcare Renaissance Nursing Home who took such wonderful care of Aunt Dell and treated her as if she was their personal family member.
A funeral service and celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at Union Wesley United Methodist Church in Clarksville, DE. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
