Gerald Leslie Rudolph, 93
Gerald “Gerry” Leslie Rudolph, 93, passed away surrounded by family on December 14, 2019 at Cadia Renaissance in Millsboro, Delaware. He was born on April 17, 1926 in Baltimore, Maryland to Nathan and Gladys Rudolph.
Gerry grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. He graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in Baltimore, Maryland in 1944. Immediately upon graduation he reported for Army basic training. After basic training he served with the 70th Infantry Division in France and Germany. He was awarded various commendations for his service in combat, including a Bronze Star. After the war he attended University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland where he received a Bachelor of Arts and Masters in Criminology. He went on to work for the United States Department of Justice as a Hearing Officer. He eventually rose to the rank of Chief Hearing Officer of the United States Probation and Parole Office. He retired in 1981 and moved to Florida to enjoy his retirement.
Gerry married Tania in 1952 in Pasadena, Maryland. They were happily married for 51 years. Gerry was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Moose Lodge, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was an avid tennis player, patron of the arts, world traveler, fisherman, and a voracious reader. His zest for life and living was insatiable. He passed his sense of adventure and love of life on to his grandsons on their many adventures.
Gerry is survived by; his daughter Linda Christ of Towson, Maryland and her husband Richard ;his grandchildren Marc Christ (Melissa) of Abingdon, Maryland and Geoffrey Christ (Erin Bennett) of Ocean View, Delaware; his great-grandchildren Owen, Spencer, Matthew, and Elizabeth.
A chapel service will be held at The Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 28, 2020, with the conferring of Military Honors.
