OBITUARY OF MR. GERALD “JERRY” LEE HAND

 

Mr. Gerald Lee “Doc” Hand of Millsboro, DE passed away at the Delaware Hospice Center on Thursday, June 27, 2019.  He was 71 years old.

 

Jerry was born on March 4, 1948 in Salem, New Jersey.  He is preceded in death by his mother Lois Ecret and his stepfather, Francis Ecret.

 

He was a retired Air Force MSgt serving a combined 27 years in the Air Force, Army and Navy, including serving with the Marines as a Navy Corpsman during the Vietnam War.  He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for his combat service. Jerry was very patriotic and a proud American.  He was a member of Post 28 American Legion in Oak Orchard.  His hobbies included softball, darts, boating, fishing and watching the Eagles win.  He loved spending time with his family and friends especially his grandchildren.  Jerry had a great sense of humor and was often the life of the party.

 

 

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Barbara C. Hand of Millsboro, DE; three children, Dale Wilson of Frederica, DE; Jeffrey Wilson and his wife Stephanie of Middletown, DE and Michelle Tucker and her husband Michael of Harrington, DE.  He is also survived by three brothers, Frank Ecret (Jean) of Townsend, DE; Wm. Penny Ecret of Venice, FL; Rick Ecret of FL; and a sister Sue Biernacki of Pennsville, NJ.  Jerry also leaves behind his six grandchildren, Ryan, Brody and Colby Wilson, Bryce, Alyssa and Abby Tucker.  He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

 

 A memorial service will be held at 12 Noon on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, DE  19966, where friends may call from 11 AM – 12 PM for visitation with the family.  Interment with the conferring of Military Honors will be held privately.

 

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Jerry’s memory to Home of the Brave, 6632 Sharps Road, Milford, DE  19963.
