James Elwood Wright, Sr., 83, of Georgetown, DE passed away in the loving care of his family and Vitas Hospice at his home on April 20, 2019.   He was born in Harrington, DE to the late Elwood R. and Rhoda Leona Donovan White on June 12, 1935.  He served in the US Navy.

James then went to work for the Dupont Company, retiring after 27 years of service.  He married Belinda Mae Hill in 1997.  He was a member of the Laurel VFW.  He loved football, building things, stock car racing, and was a NASCAR fan and sports fan.  He loved working with his hands.  James was a kindhearted man, who cared for his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Belinda, and seven children: Elizabeth Steele (Jad) of Georgetown; Janet Rothernel (Steve) of Spokane, WA; Harold Lee Elliott, Jr. (Leah) of Georgetown; Ben Wright (Becky) of Seaford; Bart Wright; Samantha Wright; and James Wright, Jr. of Florida.  James is also survived by his two sisters: Nancy Carrol, of Florida; and Alice Downs, of Baltimore, MD.  He was the proud grandfather of 22 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving him are his special friends: Billy Hill; Donald O’Neal; and Charlie Wheatley with many extended family members and friends around the area.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by a brother: Marty Wright, and a grandson: Daniel Wright.

A Ceremony for the conferring of Military Honors will be conducted at the Delaware Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro at 10:00 AM, on May 13, 2019 with US Navy Honors followed by interment in the Veteran’s Cemetery.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of His Life will be held at Life Church in Georgetown at 1:00 PM, May 13, 2019 with Pastor Parris Sexton officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Life Church; 24545 Shortly Road; Georgetown, DE 19945.
