Obituary of Larry A. Hayes

Viet Nam Veteran

Larry A. Hayes, 71, of Georgetown, DE passed away at his home on July 18, 2019. He was born in Milford, DE on November 17, 1947 to the late Arthur and Ethel Givens Hayes. Larry was active in Boy Scouts and served in several leadership positions with Troop 102 ultimately earning the highest honor in scouting, Eagle Scout. After graduating from Milford High School, he served in the US Army, and was a veteran of service in Vietnam. While stationed in Vietnam he served with the 1-82 Artillery Division where he was wounded while engaged in heavy artillery fighting. After the tour in the Army, he attended college, earning a degree in Architectural Engineering, and became a Surveyor for the State of Delaware. He served over 30 years in that capacity. Larry was a multi-talented “Mr. Fix-it” and carpenter who loved working with wood, building things, and working with his hands. He enjoyed gardening and coin collecting. He lived a very full life, a hard life and would share his experiences with you if you engaged him in conversation. He was a skilled mathematician who enjoyed helping his children with their math homework. Larry is survived by his four children: Katherine Blazo, of North Brunswick, NJ; Megan Hayes, of Newark, DE; Maureen Stevens, of Georgetown, DE; and Ian Hayes, of Cinnaminson, NJ. As well as four grandchildren: Leila Blazo; Kaden Stevens; Brycen Stevens; and Briannah Stevens and his brother Garry Hayes, of Georgetown, DE. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Hayes. A chapel service with committal rites and Military Honors will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at the Delaware Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriot Way, Millsboro, Delaware.
