Obituary of Martin Adam Basara

US Army, Vietnam Veteran

Martin Adam Basara, 69, of Dagsboro, DE and formerly of Wilmington passed away in the care of Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE on March 4, 2018.  He was born in Wilmington, DE on May 30, 1948 to the late Martin T. and Helen (Szczesiak) Basara, and lived many years in Wilmington.  He was an army veteran and Vietnam War veteran and was a skilled technician in radiological, chemical, and biological warfare as well as an expert sharpshooter.  He married Deborah Zelazny in 1974, and owned his own carpet installation business, also subcontracting to other companies.  He and Deborah raised a daughter, Jamie Lynn Basara who gave him 3 grandchildren.  He loved his grandkids, and loved to go fishing, hunting and crabbing.  He was a member of American Legion Post 24 in Dagsboro, and was also an avid supporter of Post 28 in Oak Orchard.  He was a “git-r-done!” kind of man.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah; and his daughter: Jamie; and a brother: Robert Basara and his wife Carole Ann, of Wilmington.  He is survived by his grandchildren: Dallas, Jace, and Brooklyn Freezer; and two special “adopted” grandchildren: Sammie and Dalton Freezer. He is also survived by his mother in law Helen Zelazny who resided with them in addition to many other beloved family members.  He also leaves behind his beloved black lab, “Ozzie.”

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by a brother: James Basara.

The family wishes to extend to the 2 nd floor Critical Care Team of Christiana Hospital a big THANK YOU!
