Allene Broughton, 90

“Mary Allene Broughton”

June 22, 1930-July 13, 2020

Mary Allene Broughton, daughter of the late Raymond and Edna Burton of Millsboro was born on June 22, 1930. She departed this life on July 13, 2020 at Cadia Renaissance Nursing Home in Long Neck, DE. Allene attended the public school systems in Millsboro, DE. “Allene” as she was affectionately known loved helping others.

Allene was employed with the Swift Poultry Plant in Georgetown, DE for over 30 years in which she retired. She was also employed at Geriatrics Home Healthcare for 5 years. She loved working as a personal care attendant. She cared for patients, took patients to doctor’s appointments, cooked and cleaning. This was not her job. It was also her ministry. Helping other seniors brought joy to her life. She talked about how she prayed for others at their request and how during many driving trips they stopped and shopped.

Allene was a member of Dickerson Chapel AME Church as a child. Her mother Edna Burton had a Missionary Society named after her. During Allene’s earlier years she attended Dickerson Chapel AME Church where she was on the Missionary Board, on the choir, a Sunday School Teacher, a Usher and worked in the Culinary department. She also attended the Bible Church of Christ in Dagsboro, DE where she served in many capacities. Allene also attended the United Church of Deliverance in Laurel, DE under the Leadership of Overseer Bishop Catherine Camper and Apostle Keith Wongus. She also attended New Life Kingdom Ministries and Emmanuel House of Praise in Millsboro, DE.  She attended the Bible College at the United Deliverance Bible Center where she earned her Associates and Bachelors degree in Biblical Studies.

Mother “Allene” was a people’s person and she would ask you all kinds of questions. She loved attending church, listening to Gospel music, cooking especially making her favorite chocolate Walnut cake, chicken and dumplings, and her famous ice tea. She loved reading her Bible and playing her tambourine. Her favorite songs were: “Jesus-Jesus-Jesus- You are the answer,” and Soon and Very Soon.

Left to cherish her memories are: her only son, Tyrone V. Broughton, Millsboro, DE; our eldest daughter Beverly J. Broughton-Singletary (Ben) and her youngest daughter Darlene Broughton-Seay (Greg) all of Millsboro, DE. She has six grandchildren: Dr. Alisha Broughton, Bryan Broughton, Lakeia Broughton, Vaun-Tae Broughton, Wankea Broughton Armstrong (Tracy), and Benjamin Singletary Jr., 14 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A special thanks for Cadia Renaissance Nursing Home for all of their support and care for Mother Allene Broughton.
