I was so shocked to hear about Art's passing . HE was one of the best. Hard to find another like him. We go back I was shocked to hear of Art's passing. He was a genuinely caring and passionate person who loved life and to have a good time. I first met art in 1972 when he was living in Florida. We kept connected all these years. He will be missed. He is with his soul mate Patti.
Dawn, Charley and all...I was so saddened to hear of "Artie's" untimely passing this week... He will always be remembered by me for his funny quick whit, principled complaints (usually involving a government) and the somewhat outlandish ideas or concoctions he would come up with - usually around happy hour... He had a zest for life and always a smile whenever I saw him... To Artie, we never did have that "Last One" so here's to you old buddy... God Bless You, Rest in Peace and I'll be thinking of you at 5 o'clock somewhere...
Hello,I've known Artie for a number of years now, mostly through our mutual friend Charlie Taylor. Let me offer my condolences and sincere sympathy for the loss of a dear gentle man. He will be missed greatly.I can honestly say I have never met a more charming man in my life. I truly believe Artie could have sold pocket protectors in a nudist colony. When we met, I worked for a local newspaper called The Whale. As a reporter, I knew that many people tried to slip their "ads" into the paper under the guise of calling them news. It's an occupational hazard for local newspapers and local journalists.Artie was always coming in the door to promote something called "Nu Skin". As much as I knew it didn't belong in the news section, it was just too hard to say no to Artie.I read the funeral home notice about Artie's interesting opinions about traffic lights and congested beach traffic. May I also add his less than favorable view of Bethany Beach's early efforts to prevent any additional business from serving alcohol to that list. At one time, only the former Holiday House Restaurant had a liquor license. One of my fondest memories of Artie is standing behind him one morning as he ordered donuts from the local donut shop. He asked for a dozen and was then asked what kind of donuts that he wanted. "You pick them out. I'm in no condition to make that kind of a decision," he said.Artie and Charlie were the first two friends to which I introduced my future wife. In typical fashion, they were both sweet, charming and kind to Susan. They seemed to approve, as did she, and we've been married for 17 years. I also remember a story about a banana daiquiri from what may have been The Back Porch Cafe. I'm a little unsure of the location, but the story goes that Artie wanted a daiquiri. "We don't have any bananas sir," he was told.Artie simply went to another restaurant and managed to beg, borrow, finagle or talk his way into being provided with bananas. He then took the bananas back to the first restaurant and enjoyed his drink.I remember dinners, drinks and good conversation with a dear friend. I am truly sorry that we lost touch.I suspect that Heaven is a little more charming today. His friends and family will be in my prayers.Michael Short
