ALTON CORDREY's Obituary
Obituary of Mr. Alton Cordrey Alton Cordrey, 88, of Delmar, DE went peacefully to be with the Lord, while surrounded by, and in the loving care of his family on November 2, 2014. He was born on January 13, 1926 to the late Harry J. and Lida Ward Cordrey in Gumboro, DE. Mr. Cordrey served in the US Navy, was a World War II veteran, and while on leave he returned home to marry his sweetheart, Lena Baker. Together they raised four children. Lena preceded him in death in 2002. Through that time, Alton worked as a roofer, Poultry Inspector with the USDA at Townsend's, and finally as a courier at several banks ending with Brooks Courier Service. He loved baseball, coin collecting, fishing and especially loved gardening. He was also a NASCAR fan of Jeff Gordon and Bobby Allison. He is survived by his four children: Jo Ann Rickards, and husband Jim, of Wetumpka, AL, Phyllis Carmine, and husband Richard, of Laurel, DE, Judy Jenkins, and husband Philip, of Delmar, DE, and Barbara Sullivan, and husband George, of Laurel, DE along with his siblings: Ruth Conaway, Gladys Baker, Bernice Ward, Dorothy Carmine, and husband Bobby, Carol Moorehead, and husband Richard, Bobby Cordrey, and wife Nancy, and Shirley Gray. He has 10 grandchildren: Terri Scheiring, and husband Jeff, Traci White, and husband Tom, Jimmy Rickards, and wife, Jeannine, Rick Carmine, and wife Susan, Eddie Carmine, Tania Jenkins, John Jenkins, Mark Jenkins, Kevin Sullivan, and wife Nichole, and Brian Sullivan and wife, Megan. There are 13 great-grandchildren, along with nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by siblings Bill Cordrey, and Leon Cordrey and a special friend, Earl Conaway. A funeral service and celebration of his life will be held at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, DE on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 11:00 AM. Friends may call two hours prior. Interment follows in Millsboro Cemetery.
