Amelia Ellen Gordy's Obituary
Amelia Ellen Gordy, born on February 25, 1925, in Frankford, DE, peacefully passed away on April 11, 2024. She was the cherished daughter of the late Paul and Lily Maude (Long) Adkins.
During World War II, Amelia contributed to the war effort by working at E.I. DuPont. In the years that followed, she embraced various roles, from raising chickens to grading eggs to owning and operating establishments such as a little country store, Sunshine Fish Market, and Colonial Oaks Antiques. Her resilience and work ethic were unmatched.
Amelia was a pillar of her community, known for her unwavering faith and dedication to Christ Evangelistic Church, where she was a founding member. Her devotion was evident in her weekly routine, attending Sunday service followed by lunch with her church family.
Throughout her life, Amelia found joy in simple pleasures, including participating in the bowling league, solving word searches, and immersing herself in the pages of the Bible. Most importantly, she enjoyed spending quality time with her beloved family. She eagerly anticipated Saturday night phone calls with her sister and niece. She frequently embarked on adventures with her daughter, granddaughters, and great grandson, creating cherished memories that will be treasured forever. Her warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Havard Gordy, her parents, and her siblings Ephriam Adkins, Courtland Adkins, Hilda Adams, and Irma Mae Adkins. Amelia is survived by her devoted daughter, Sharon Harte (Benjamin), her granddaughters Katherine Kudzma (David) and Marcella Harte Conlon (Patrick), her great-grandson Simon Kudzma, her sister Irma Lee Davis, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate Amelia's life will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Evangelistic Church in Laurel, DE, with a viewing from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will immediately follow the service at Line U.M.C. Cemetery in Delmar, DE.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Evangelistic Church in Laurel, DE, in honor of Amelia's enduring legacy of faith and love.
