Annie Handy's Obituary
Annie Handy passed away peacefully at her home in Selbyville, DE, on July 24, 2024, at the age of 82. She was born on August 18, 1941, in Wilson, NC, to her late parents Dorsey Hilliard and Mary Hilliard (Hagans).
Mrs. Handy was the cherished wife of Lemuel R. Handy, Sr., with whom she shared 64 years of devoted marriage. Together, they raised a large and loving family, including their seven children: Pauline Wescott (Larry) of Bishopville, MD, Lemuel R. Handy, Jr. (Denise) of Selbyville, DE, Jaqueline Askins of Bishopville, MD, Kimberley Leonard of Selbyville, DE, Jennifer Handy of Millsboro, DE, Regina Handy-Tull of Selbyville, DE, and Ella Handy (Quincy Ransey) of Severn, MD. She was a proud grandmother to 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored and watched over with great care.
Mrs. Handy was the loving sister to Reva Bivens (Denver Sr.) of Selbyville, DE, John Hilliard (Rosetta) of Williamsville, DE, and Connie Hilliard (Maurine) of Williamsville, DE. She was a dear aunt and cousin to many, and she held a special place in her heart for her nieces, nephews, and the countless friends she considered family. She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her two brothers: Lonnie Hilliard and Dorsey Hilliard, Jr.; and her granddaughter Victoria Cannon.
Throughout her life, Mrs. Handy was known for her exceptional sewing skills, having made all the clothes for her children in their early years. She was a true matriarch, not only protecting her family but also creating a warm and welcoming home. Her hands were rarely still, and her heart was always open. Mrs. Handy's legacy is one of unconditional love, unwavering support, and the beautiful family she raised. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories shared by those who knew her best.
A viewing for Mrs. Handy will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2024 from 2:00PM to 4:00PM at Watson Funeral Home and Crematorium, 211 South Washington Street, Millsboro, DE.
