I was in the 55th municipal police Academy at DSP with Barry he was easy-going and well liked. He had the unlucky ability of breaking a few bones, but that didn’t stop him from training He got up an hour earlier than the rest of our class just to make sure that we had a hot breakfast instead of eating granola bars every morning he. Barry became kind of famous with that role since he had a history of working in restaurants, he would immediately finish cleanup and attend class with the rest of us.Barrys actions and his love for his classmates, never went unnoticed. As in time we all drifted apart to work for our separate agencies, but we never forgot good ole boy Barry Wheatley. RIP. 55th Municipal

I grew up with Barry in Seaford and we graduated together in 1992. Barry was always very kind, always had a big smile, and was definitely a very smart kid. He was one of the good guys that made the best of any tough situation. I only got to see him a few times after high school but when he realized that my son graduated from Police Academy and was working for DNREC police, he reached out to me. He offered to help my son in any way because that’s the kind of great guy Barry was. We talked about getting together with our spouses to sit around our fire pit one evening during the summer. How I wish we followed through with that! Sending prayers to his wife and daughters during this very difficult time. May all of your wonderful memories help you as you navigate this challenge.

Sergeant Wheatley trained me as a new police officer in Millsboro and was my first assigned partner on the job. His knowledge and commitment was superior, I could always count on him for guidance. We shared a unique bond at the end, thank you for everything you did for me. Rest easy my friend.
