Obituary of Mrs. Betty I. Burris
Retired Business Owner
Betty I. Burris, 86, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016. She was born on October 28, 1929 to the late John and Elizabeth Courtney Calloway. Mrs. Burris was predeceased by her husband, Eddie Burris, Jr. whom she married on October 26, 1949 and together they shared 40 years of marriage, raising two daughters and were co-owners of several businesses. Mr. Burris passed in 1989. She enjoyed travelling, reading, puzzles and bingo, but most of all enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughters: Debra Cannon, of Georgetown, with whom she lived for the last three years; and Kathleen Long, and her husband, Gary, of Long Neck. Mrs. Burris is also survived by her sister, Sharon Gooch, of Dover; her grandson, Michael Cannon, and his wife Amy and one great grandson: Aiden Cannon.
A funeral service will be held at Watson Funeral Home in Millsboro on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at 1:00 PM with the Rev. James Van Der Wall officiating. Friends may call one hour prior, from Noon until 1:00 for viewing and visitation. Interment will be with the family only privately at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna.
