Brian E Matthias' Obituary
Brian E Matthias, businessman, musician, but most of all a loving, thoughtful and kind husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford after a brief but courageous battle with cancer on December 7, 2017. He was 59.
Brian was born on February 4, 1958 in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Sussex Central High School in 1976, where he was a top musician in both band and choir. He went on to graduate with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education and a Minor in Music in 1980 from Kutztown University in Kutztown, Pennsylvania. It was in Kutztown that he started Matthias Insurance, which he has owned for 37 years. The legacy of Matthias Insurance will continue under the leadership of Brian's son, Zachary Matthias, who has teamed with his father in the business since 2005.
Brian moved back to Georgetown, Delaware in 2015 to take care of his mother and her husband. He acquired and lovingly remodeled a historical home in Georgetown, in which he showcased his restoration and artistic abilities. It was in Georgetown that Brian married his husband Mario Salgueiro on August 31, 2013. He enjoyed traveling, photography, and a good craft beer!
Brian is survived by his husband, Mario Salgueiro; his sons Zachary Matthias, Nathan Matthias and Brandon Matthias; his mother Bessie Esposito; his brother Kenneth Matthias; his soul mate and mother of his children, Deb Bortz, and one beloved granddaughter, Kayla Matthias.
