CHARLES "Charlie" THOMAS SAMPLE, SR.
Charles Thomas Sample, Sr., was born on September 11, 1929, in Melfa, Virginia, to the parents of the late Henry and Annie Pearl (Strand) Sample.
Charlie was called to rest on December 17, 2015, at Atlantic General Hospital, Berlin, Maryland, at the age of 86.
Charlie retired from Perdue Farms as a mechanic.
After retirement, he worked part-time as a tag runner for Gene's Auto.
Charlie had a passion for cars, motorcycles, and speed.
Many of his weekends were spent at the dirt track, where he enjoyed repairing race cars and watching the cars race. When Charlie was unable to attend a race, you could always find Charlie in his living room kneeling on his knees while watching Nascar.
Charlie leaves to cherish his memory to his wife of 50 years, Frances (Purnell) Sample; his son, Charles, Junior (Ericka) Sample; his daughter, Margot Tingle; a special nephew; Jimmy (Joanne) Purnell, and niece; Linda (Charles) Collins, who Charlie raised as his own children, two grandchildren; Jakayla and Jaryn Sample, one sister; Bessie Major, one brother-in-law; Robert (Phyllis) Purnell, one sister-in-law, Kathleen Purnell; and a host of other relatives and special friends.
Charlie was preceded in death by two brothers and six sisters.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, DE 19966. The viewing will take place from 11 AM to 1 PM. Burial will follow at Zoar Golden Acres. Flowers are welcome.
