Distinguished Fire Service Record
Clarence Frederick Bare, known simply as "Fred" or "Fred Bare" to virtually everyone passed away on February 28, 2022, in the care of Tidal Health Peninsula General Hospital in Salisbury, MD. He was 78 years old.
Fred was born in Baltimore, MD on May 31, 1943, to the late James C. and Iva Gordy Bare. Fred lived a life of extraordinary public service working as a police officer in Willards, MD, then serving 21 years, and retiring from the Delaware Army Reserve National Guard. In addition, he had a distinguished career as a volunteer in the Fire Service. He served in the Willards, MD Volunteer Fire Department, then moving to Delaware joining Gumboro Vol. Fire Company where he was a Life Member. He served as Past President, Captain of Fire Police, Past President of Sussex County Fire Police Association, and Past President of Delaware State Fire Police Association. He was honored in being named to three "Halls of Fame" with Delmarva Firefighters Hall of Fame, Delaware Firefighters Association Hall of Fame, and Delaware State Fire Police Hall of Fame. He was Fire Policeman of the year. In addition, he served on many other County and State Committees with the Fire Service. He was always involved in his son's activities, devoted to family and active in the Community serving as a Scout Master, and with Little League. He was known to be the life of the party, smart and spirited and a friend to everyone.
Fred is survived by his son: William "Jay" Bare (Norma) of Sharptown, MD and four siblings: Samuel W. Bare, of Wilmington; Donald K. Bare, of Pennsylvania; Leo R. Bare, of Gumboro; and Jessie W. Bare (Myra), of Frankford, DE. He also has one grandchild: Nikki A. Powell, and one great-grandchild: Jeffrey A. Ayers, III. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded by his wife Christine Bare, and siblings: Iva B. King; James C. Bare, Jr.; and John E. Bare, Sr.
A private Memorial Service in his honor will be held in the Chapel at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery with his long-time special friend and cohort, Pastor Robert Hudson officiating. Military Honors will be conferred, with interment.
Friends and family are invited to gather at the Gumboro Fire Station at 1:00 PM, on Friday, March 11, 2022 for a Celebration of His Life and a Reception in honor of his many years in the fire service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Gumboro Volunteer Fire Company, 37030 Millsboro Hwy, Millsboro, DE 19966.
