Clarence M. Gardner III's Obituary
C.M. ""Skip"" Gardner, III, of Bridgeville, DE passed away at the age of 54 on Sunday, July 22 after a long and courageous battle with prostate cancer. Born on August 31, 1957 in Parkersburg, WV he was the second son of Clarence M. Gardner, Jr. and Phyllis Snyder Gardner of Seaford, DE. After graduating in 1979 from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture, Skip was the Superintendent of Newark Country Club in Newark, Delaware, Brantwood Golf Club in Elkton, Maryland and Garrisons Lake Golf Club in Smyrna, Delaware. His many years of experience in turf grass management encouraged Skip to embark upon his ultimate dream of his life- to design, build and manage his own public golf course so that families could learn and enjoy the game of golf at a reasonable cost. In 1993 along with his family and friends, Skip proudly opened the doors of the Woodland Golf Park outside of Seaford, his hometown. Skip worked countless hours maintaining the spectacular grounds and managing the business until his illness forced him to close the doors and retire in 2006. Skip loved the outdoors especially the beach and tinkering with classic sports cars. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of the fraternity Phi Kappa Tau. Skip most enjoyed teaching his daughter, Glynis how to swim, play softball, ride a bike, and drive a golf cart. Glynis was the light in his life. In addition to his parents, Skip was preceded in death by his older brother, J. Bradford Gardner and his maternal and paternal grandparents. Skip is survived by his daughter, Glynis Paige and her mother, Ursula P. Gardner of Seaford, DE, along with his two younger sisters, Meg Bohmke and her husband David of Fredericksburg, Virginia and Nannette (Nan) Hathaway and her husband Douglas of Woodstown, New Jersey as well as his nieces and nephews Matthew, Greg and Natalie Bohmke, Caroline, Elizabeth and Hillary Hathaway. A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 30 at the Heritage Shores Club, One Heritage Shores Circle, Bridgeville. Family and friends may greet the family from 9 - 11 with a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. The burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Skip's memory to the Boy Scouts of America Troop 381, C/O Debbie Wilson, 25359 Church Rd, Seaford, DE 19973.
