Obituary of Mr. Daniel Jerald Gates:
Daniel Jerald Gates, 77, of Millsboro passed away on September 15, 2016 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born on July 11, 1939 in Washington, D.C. to the late Jesse Bernard and Mary Baker Gates. He was devoted to his family, and loved doing things with them, and for them. He was an amateur "Animal Rescue expert" saving animals of all kinds. He rescued everything and had pigs, raccoons, goats and even a skunk. He loved his animals. He also loved helping people. He is survived by his wife: Sandra Wheeler-Gates and three children: Andrew Carl Gates, and his wife Cheryl, of Prince Frederick, MD; Debora Sue Slye, and husband Pastor Benjamin, of Riverdale, MD; and Danette Readling, and husband Richard, of Stevensville, MD. He is also survived by his step-son: Robert L. Wheeler; He is also survived by siblings: Bernadette Gagne, of North Carolina; Jessie Taylor, of Coatesville, PA; Andrea Snoots, and husband Ricky, also of Coatesville, PA; and he was preceded by two siblings: Pricilla Hinkley and a twin brother, David Gates. He has four grandchildren: Andrew Gates; Thomas Gates; Kyle Slye; and Corey Readling. There is a great-grandchild: Destiny Gates. He is also survived by extended family and friends. Another beloved part of his life was his canine friend, B.J. who was with him when he passed. A Memorial Service will be held at a later time, and all arrangements are private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Delaware S.P.C.A., 22918 DuPont Blvd., Georgetown, DE 19947.
