DARYL JOSE JACKSON's Obituary
DARYL J. JACKSON, AGE 65 OF MILLSBORO, DE
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Daryl J. Jackson, 65, on Tuesday, March 8th, 2016. Daryl was born September 13th, 1950 to Preston and Mary Jackson in Millsboro DE. He grew up in Oak Orchard loving nothing more than his horse and dressing up as a cowboy. From a young age Daryl loved playing sports with his neighborhood family and friends. During his time in high school he played some sport year around, whether it was cross country, basketball, or baseball. After graduating from Sussex Central High School he traveled the country as part of the 82nd Airborne Paratrooper in the US Army. He excelled quickly and remained on bases to teach new troops the correct procedure of how to jump out of planes. Some of his favorite photos were of his fellow paratroopers and him in midair with Alaskan mountains behind them.
When he returned home, he married his childhood friend and love of his life Barbara Davis. Daryl and Barbara raised 2 children and lived happily for 25 years until Barbara passed away from breast cancer in 2010. He spent his life as a self employed painter working year around by word of mouth alone. From doctors offices, hotels, and many family homes he worked tirelessly all over Sussex County, but especially Rehoboth. Daryl was also a proud member of the Nanticoke Indian Association. He spent many years supporting the tribe and its youth and would come to most of their events, especially The Nanticoke Indian Tribal Powwow in September. But Daryl's greatest accomplishment in life was being a husband and father to his family.
Anyone who knew Daryl knows how much he liked to laugh. He spent most of his time talking with friends about the "old days". After retiring in 2014 he spent much of his time at home or drinking coffee with friends outside of Royal Farms. Daryl loved playing and watching sports, collecting photos, spending time with friends, the NY Yankees, The Pittsburgh Steelers, but most of all his children.
Daryl was predeceased by his parents Preston C. Jackson and Mary Draine (Harmon), and his wife Barbara C. Jackson (Davis). He is survived by his sister Paulette Brunswick and brother in law Tony Brunswick; son Daryl Brett Jackson and girlfriend Kayliegh Vickers; daughter Cory E. Ridgeway and son in law Urie Ridgeway; 4 grandchildren Maehawiaki Ridgeway, Chitanitehe Ridgeway, Sahkakwenao Ridgeway, Delilah Jackson, with one more on the way; nephew Todd Dickerson; niece Katy Brunswick; and a host of cousins and friends.
Since he wished for no funeral services we ask that in lieu of flowers donations be sent to the Nanticoke Indian Tribal Regalia Fund, for he loved nothing more than watching our tribal kids dance at Powwow. The family would also like to say thank you to the Staff at Beebe Hospital in Lewes and the Hospice Center in Milford for his excellent care. Daryl taught us many things about life like how to make the best peanut butter sandwich, how to jump from swings, how to play basketball, how to run smart, how to paint without using tape, but most of all to remember that each day matters so take it easy and enjoy life.
