DERWOOD H BUSH, JR.'s Obituary
Derwood Henry Bush, Jr. - left this earthly world after a brief illness on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at Seasons Hospice in Newark, DE.
A resident of Seaford, DE, formerly of Chesapeake Beach, MD, "Woody" is preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis Mae and his father, Derwood Sr. and he is survived by his wife Mary "Pat" Bush, daughter Amanda (Kevin Brown) of Annapolis, MD, granddaughter Lindsay (Patrick Gordon) of Seaford and 2 great grandsons, Carter and Chance.
Born in Macon, GA, Woody moved to the Washington, DC area in the 1940's after graduating from Hargrave Military Academy as Battalion Commander. He met and married his lovely wife Pat in 1952 and after his time in the Army, he made his career in the photo engraving industry, retiring from the Washington Post in 1997.
A man of many interests and hobbies, from building homes to hang gliding, but Woody had a greater passion for helping that in need, especially children, until his final days. A soft heart and strong soul - he was focused, driven and a man on a mission. The family holds dear the knowledge that "To be absent from this body is to be present with the Lord!"
Funeral services with full military honors will be held Friday, December 9.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider a donation in Woody's name (Derwood Bush) to one of his favorite charities - mercyships.org or stjude.org.
