Dollie Ann Sturgis' Obituary
Dollie Ann Sturgis, lovingly known as “Dollbaby,” passed away peacefully on May 12, 2025, in Lewes, Delaware, at the age of 71. Born on January 4, 1954, in Selbyville, Delaware, she was the cherished daughter of the late Arthur Sturgis and Anna Lee Tunnell.
Dollie spent many years working as a dedicated cook at Atlantic Shores Rehabilitation and Health Center, where her love for preparing hearty, comforting meals extended beyond the workplace. Her true passion was found in the kitchen, especially when cooking for her family. Whether it was a holiday, birthday, or just a Sunday afternoon, Dollie poured her heart, soul, and love into every dish. She firmly believed no one should ever leave her home hungry—and no one ever did.
A welcoming soul, Dollie never met a stranger. Her home was a place of warmth and comfort, where all were invited and made to feel like family. She had a fondness for Pepsi, a deep love for seafood—especially shrimp and crabs—and an eye for new furniture, which she delighted in selecting to make her space even more inviting.
Above all else, Dollie adored her grandchildren. She was their biggest supporter and fiercest protector, always ready to move mountains to be by their side. Her love and devotion were unwavering, and her presence a constant source of strength and joy in their lives.
Dollie was also a woman of strong faith. She was a devoted member of Flames of Fire Holy Ghost Ministries in Georgetown, Delaware, where she was saved and baptized. Her love for Christ was reflected in the way she lived—with kindness, compassion, and generosity.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Jerry Mumford, Arthur Sturgis Jr., and Alfred Sturgis; and her sisters, Geraldine Sturgis, Tobiathia Sturgis, and Sarah Sturgis.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved sons: Troy Sturgis of Bishopville, MD; Larry Sturgis (Ashley) of Delmar, DE; Jeremy Sturgis of Millsboro, DE; and Jerry Sturgis of Millsboro, DE; her dear sister, Nancy Bratten of Selbyville, DE; her treasured grandchildren: Anthony Jackson III, Jakyi Sturgis, Ayden Sturgis, Jersyi Sturgis, Amir Sturgis, Destiny Solsa, Tabre Woolford, Troyanna Sturgis, Teana Sturgis, Ja'niyia Sturgis, Muhriya Sturgis, and Gianna Sturgis; and her precious great-grandchildren: Aden Sousa, Elijah Sousa, Ta'adrie Woolford, Luna Woolford, Onyx Harmon, Emryis Chisholm, and A’mora Spry.
A memorial service to celebrate Dollie’s life will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. John 2nd Baptist Church, located at 26602 Mt. Joy Road, Millsboro, DE 19966. A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM prior to the start of the service.
Dollie Ann Sturgis leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and unwavering devotion to family. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
