Donald G Evans "Don"'s Obituary
Donald Gary Evans, "Don," passed away in the loving care of his family on October 31, 2015. He was born on June 2, 1941 in Ewell, MD to the late Willie and Esther Middleton Evans. Though originally from Smith Island, MD Don spent most of his life in Gumboro, DE. He was a veteran of the US Army, served in Viet Nam and then went on to become an employee of the Seaford Nylon Plant operated by Dupont. He also owned and operated a poultry farm, and was an active member of the Gumboro Fire Company. In addition, he was a member of the American Legion, Post 28. He was married to Rebecca Oliphant 46 years ago, and together they raised two children: Bill Evans of Gumboro; and Dawn, who married her husband Bruce, also of Gumboro.
Don was a devoted family man, and adored his grandson. He was a "plain, down to earth" easy going guy who enjoyed his morning coffee at the Gumboro store. He also enjoyed Fox News, the slots, and especially loved being involved in his grandson's activities.
In addition to his wife, Becky, who survives him, and his children, he is survived by his siblings: Mitzy Breimer, and husband Jessie; Dickie Evans, and his wife Linda; and Phillip Evans, and his wife Donna - all of Smith Island, MD. He also has a grandson, whom he treasured: Blake Wright, and a step-granddaughter: Heather Wright.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 4 at 12:30 PM with Pastor Chuck Reynolds, and Eddie Daniels officiating. Friends may call beginning at 11:00 AM for viewing and visitation prior to the funeral service. Interment follows with Military Honors at the Delaware Veteran's Memorial Cemetery.
