Doris Coleen Price's Obituary
Doris Price of Millsboro, Delaware passed into heavenly peace on August 24, 2022.
Born Doris Coleen Davis on December 1, 1929, to parents Robert (Bud) Henry and Lillie Mae (Johnson) Davis, she was the youngest of five children. (Siblings: Inez Burton, Lillian Maul, William Davis, and Sylvia Pinkett).
Doris grew up on the family farm, learning to drive the tractor at the age of ten, and did all the hard work required to help the family survive the struggles of the Great Depression--all of which shaped her appreciation of life's gifts.
Doris earned her Associates Degree in Dental Hygiene from Temple University and her Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts and Writing from Empire State College of State University of New York.
Doris was an accomplished artist. Through painting and printmaking, she explored and exhibited her passion for Jazz and her cultural heritages (Nanticoke Tribe and African-American). She invented her own technique, using acrylic paint, gesso, and sand to create "Rock Wall" paintings which have a three dimensional texture and convey a deep sense of history. Her works are in the collections of the Library of Congress (printmaking collection), Medgar Evers College, Delaware State University, Nassau County Museum, NY, the Apex Museum of Atlanta, GA and many other places. She is listed in, The Best of Acrylic Paintings, Creative Inspirations, Who's Who of the East and Who's Who in American Art. Her work has been shown in solo and group exhibits and has received numerous awards.
She leaves behind her husband of 66 years, Cyril Hamilton Price, whom she met in 1949 in Washington, D.C. thanks to her sister Sylvia (who survives her). She is survived by three children (Alan Curtis Price (spouse Gina Marie LaRoche), Gary Stuart Price, and Cheryl Lynn Ochoa (spouse José Ochoa), five grandchildren (Jackson LaRoche Price, Joseph Michael Ochoa, Griffin Alan Price, Christopher David Ochoa, and Kevin Anthony Ochoa), and one great-grandchild (Olivia Rose Ochoa).
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at Indian Mission United Methodist Church, 22701 Indian Mission Rd, Harbeson, DE 19951 where friends may call from 12:00 PM -1:00 PM for viewing and visitation.
