Dr. Jeffrey Blair Hazard, Esq.'s Obituary
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Dr. Jeffrey Blair Hazard, Esq on the evening of Monday, February 26, 2024. His life was an endless quest for knowledge, surrounded by much loved family and friends. Born on August 27, 1951, to Edward and Doris Hazard of Lutherville, MD, Jeff spent the majority of his 72 years in or around the northern Baltimore area. In 2021, Jeff and his wife of 45 years, Susan (nee Michno), settled near their grandchildren in Lewes, DE for some salt air.
While living in Baltimore, Jeff both attended and taught at many prestigious colleges and universities. A man of few words but many accolades, Jeff held multiple graduate degrees, including a J.D and a PhD. While his accomplishments certainly helped him as an entrepreneur, he used most of his skills to help others. A licensed CPA, he spent a great deal of time working with residents and families at Stella Maris and Villa Maria, providing assistance in legal and financial planning, all pro-bono.
Jeff worked as a CPA at McCormick and Co while attending law school. He owned and operated multiple businesses. Key Oldsmobile and Key Leasing were landmarks on York Rd in Towson for 20 years. He owned the Maryland franchise of Colortyme Rent to Own. His real passion was teaching; something he started out of college and continued for more than 40 years. In addition to graduate level, he taught 5th grade CCD for years and helped dozens of incarcerated non-violent offenders complete their GEDs. Jeff had a way of communicating with everyone, age 2 to 102, no matter what circumstances brought them together. Jeff loved to laugh and when he did, it drew you in. He was known for some very clever, if questionable, pranks on family and friends, which will be remembered fondly.
A self-taught handyman with a love of woodworking and landscaping, it always seemed to his daughters he could conquer any project, even if his methods were sometimes unconventional. Jeff always kept his family’s home looking as lovely as it was loved. He enjoyed golf very much; both playing and watching. He liked to travel. He was mesmerized by the Grand Canyon’s beauty. He liked to grill, even in the rain, enjoyed trying new foods, made an excellent cream of crab soup, and knew his way around a wine cellar. A naval orange lover, his girls have fond memories of him always willing to peel them one, even once they were far too old to need his help. Jeff loved his dogs, cat and his fish. Animals loved him, too; Jeff had a calm and kind disposition perfect for a best friend. He worked with multiple rescues and loved fostering.
More than anything, Jeff loved his girls: his wife Susan, and his daughters, Megan and Whitney. He is survived by Megan, her husband John Stack and their three children Evie, Ellie and Graham, as well as Whitney, her husband Dave Samaroo and their son, Pierce. A beloved Granddaddy, father and husband, his smiling blue eyes are watching over us all. As ‘Dr. Mr. Jeffrey Blair Hazard’ would say, “The party’s over!” Or perhaps, we hope, his is just starting.
