Earl Richard Powell's Obituary
Mr. Earl Richard Powell of Georgetown, DE passed away on Sunday, 10/29/23 surrounded by his family. He was 80 years old.
Earl was born on September 22, 1943, in Dagsboro, DE to the late Clifford Irvin and Ida Carey Powell.
He was a graduate of the John M. Clayton High School class of 1961.
Earl was a U. S. Air Force Veteran who served his country during the Vietnam War Era. He retired from Dupont in Seaford, DE after approximately 38 years of service. Earl, also known to his close friends as Richard was an active member of the American Legion Post 24 in Dagsboro, DE. He enjoyed surf fishing, travelling and listening to music especially Dr. Hook.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded by his first wife Willa Faye Goff on February 17, 1998, and a brother William Allan Powell.
He is survived by his second wife of 16 years Lillian Powell of Georgetown, DE who was devoted to Earl’s care for the last several years. He also leaves behind one daughter Dawn Harris and her husband John of Georgetown, DE as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, DE 19966, A chapel service with Military Honors will follow at 1:00 PM at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE 19966.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Earl’s memory to a local American Legion Post or to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, PO Box 5014 Hagerstown, MD 21741.
