Elmer Floyd Bethards Jr.'s Obituary
Elmer Floyd Bethards, Jr., age 58, of Millsboro, Delaware, passed away on January 23, 2026, in Millsboro, DE. He was born on January 20, 1968, in Lewes, DE, the son of the late Elmer Floyd Bethards, Sr. and Rachel Irene (White) Bethards.
Elmer attended Sussex Central High School, where he was a standout athlete. He competed in baseball and track and field and excelled at both, leaving a lasting legacy as he still holds records at Sussex Central High School in those sports. His dedication, discipline, and competitive spirit were evident even at a young age.
Following high school, Elmer pursued trade school and became a welder—a career he truly loved and considered his calling. He took great pride in his work and was known for his skill, strong work ethic, and attention to detail.
Outside of work, Elmer enjoyed fishing, caring for his home, and tending to his garden. More than anything, he cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride. Elmer was also a proud member of the Free Masons.
He is survived by his loving children, Marshell Bethards, Blade Bethards (Kristen), and Christina Bethards; his grandchildren, Hayden Kenton, Emberly Lecates, Aiden Bethards, and Isaiah Bethards; his 92 year old grandmother Janette White, his siblings, William Bethards, Felicia White, and Kindall Bethards; his aunts, Willa McNair, April Bethards, Diana Jackson, Wanda Murray, Cheryl Tirrell, and uncles, Theodore (Teddy) Bethards and Walter White.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Watson Funeral Home and Crematorium, 211 S. Washington Street, Millsboro, DE 19966. A viewing will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow immediately at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Elmer will be remembered for his strength, dedication, and deep love for his family. His legacy lives on through those he loved and inspired.
