Elmer Floyd Bethards, Sr. "Floyd"'s Obituary
Mr. Elmer Floyd Bethards, Sr. “Floyd” 78 of Millsboro, Delaware departed this life on Friday, June 20, 2025, surrounded by family at home. He was born in Lewes, Delaware, son of the late Charles Bethards Sr. and Sarah Houston Bethards.
Floyd was educated at the 204 School and then would later attend William C. Jason High School. Upon completing school, he would later go out and work. This led to being employed by various companies. Floyd worked for J. Ronald Dashiells Construction for over 30 years. Following that employment, Floyd went on to work for 1st State Community Action. Floyd was a hard worker, always into something, especially anything outside.
He was a talker with a sense of humor and a great big smile to go with that. You could find Floyd at his favorite hangouts McDonalds, Uncle Willies, Bodies, 7-11, or Wawa. Not only was he there but so many of his friends were there too. Floyd and his friends would sit for hours.
Floyd loved to play and watch sports on TV. He played for softball teams such as Gun and Rod Club, Tread Burners Motorcycle Club as well as on the Honolulu Road Stompers.
He loved his family, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He would always be outside playing with them on a nice sunny day and having plenty of laughs.
Floyd was previously married to Rachel Irene Bethards, the mother of his children. He later married the late Eleanor Foreman Bethards.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Sr. and Sarah Bethards, his wife, Eleanor, his oldest brother Charles Jr. and niece Charmaine Hicks.
His favorite saying that could be heard every day and all day, “What you say there”.
He will be lovingly remembered by four children, William Bethards (Tina) of Fredericksburg, VA, Felicia White of Millsboro, DE, Elmer Bethards Jr. of Millsboro, DE and Kindall Bethards of Millsboro, DE. He leaves behind five grandchildren Shana Holum; Bianca Snyder; Marshell Bethards; Blade Bethards; and Christina Bethards as well as ten great grandchildren, Tyler Holum; Isaiah Dukes, Makayla White; Jayden White, Dominic White; Kamearon White, Hayden Kenton, Emberly LeCates, Isaiah Bethards and Aiden Bethards. Floyd also leaves behind one brother Theodore Bethards (Margarete) of West Palm Beach, FL, one sister April Bethards of Millsboro, DE, one nephew Rico Turlington and one niece Renee Turlington- Tolliver special uncle Jack Vann and special cousin George Oney “Brother” and a host of close friends and extended family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, July 7, 2025, at Watson Funeral Home and Crematorium, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, DE 19966 at 11:00 AM, with a viewing one hour prior, beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private.
