GARRY OLIVER ""FLICK""'s Obituary
Garry Oliver affectionately known as "" Flick"" was born on May 21, 1952 in Salisbury, MD to the late Doris McCoy Rhodes Turnage and Mordecai Rhodes. On Monday, August 4, 2014 he departed this earthly life at the tender age of 62. Garry started his former education in the public schools of Worcester County and received his high school diploma from the Sussex County Seaford High School. Garry was a retired Transportation Driver for the Berlin Head Start, he also drove as a Food Service transporter as well as working as an attendant for the Trimper's Amusement Park. Garry dated his high school sweetheart Sandra Showell whom he married on April 22, 1978. Together they celebrated 44 years. In his early years he received his Christian education and membership at the Curtis United Methodist Church, in Bishopville, Maryland. He was much affiliated with and supportive to his community churches in Berlin such as Tyree AME Church, Refreshing Fountain Ministries and New Bethel UM Church. Before his passing he occasionally attended New Dimension Family Ministries in Salisbury, MD. Garry loved cooking, bar-be-ques, and eating soul food. He was very sociable to many and also loved the fellowship of friends while playing pool, and card games. Additional nicknames given by friends: Dr. Buzzard, Vern, Biscuit, Nik Nir, Nik-Nik, Linwood, and Pops. Garry was a very affectionate and giving person, who loved his family dearly. Some of his favorite pastimes included singing, drawing, watching game shows and being sociable on Flower Street. He was preceded in death by his biological parents and siblings Diane Moore, Morris and Rudolph Rhodes. He was also preceded by Flossie Dennis Gaynor, and John Henry Dennis which whom he was raised. In addition to his wife Sandra of 44 years he is survived by his children: Eric (Danielle) Oliver of Baltimore, MD., Jeremy Oliver, of Salisbury, MD., Tristan Oliver, of Fort Collins, Colorado., Alicia Oliver, or Berlin, MD., and Sierra Bowen of Salisbury, MD. Five grandchildren: Jasmine Dennis, Jakai Taylor, MacKenzie Oliver, Jamya Gould, and Keith Clark, Jr. Six brothers: Preston Boone, Melvin (Carolyn) Williams, and Tyrone Turnage all of Kinston, NC., Clarence (Sharon) Rouse of Morristown, NJ,, SSGT. Eddie (Deborah) Moore, Jr. USA, Ret. Of Oxford, MS., and Larry Waters, of Washington, DC, Three sisters: Alberta Coleman and Brenda Moore of Kinston, NC., and Louetta (Howard) Collins of Wilmington, NC. Uncles: William McCoy of Newark, NJ and James McCoy of Dover, NC; one great aunt, Adell Dawson Mitchell of Kinston, NC. Extended family (siblings) which whom he was raised: Brenda (""Bren"") Barnes, Bernita Downing, Bruce and Theresa Dennis, Dorothy (""Snookie"") Grooms, Calvin Hoskins, Gloria (""Frecey"") Leonard, Shirley Quillen, and William (""Bobo"") Purnell. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, August 11, 2014 at New Dimensions Ministries, 1907 Jersey Rd, Salisbury, MD 21801, where friends may call after 12 Noon. Burial will follow at Curtis United Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Coastal Hospice at the Lake, PO Box 1733. Salisbury, MD 21802.
