Gary R. Brittingham's Obituary
Gary R. Brittingham “Sod-buster”, 79, of Laurel, Delaware, passed away peacefully at home on March 12, 2026.
Born in Milford, Delaware on November 10, 1946, he was the son of the late Roscoe and Vivian (Hitchens) Brittingham. Gary graduated from Laurel High School with the Class of 1964 and was later drafted into the United States Army, where he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War.
Following his return home from Vietnam, Gary began a long career with DuPont Nylon Plant in Seaford, where he worked there for 28½ years. In addition to his work at DuPont, he was a dedicated farmer who raised chickens and took great pride in working the land.
Gary enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting, and going for joy rides in his pickup truck where he always ended up somewhere talking with his many friends. He was also passionate about harness racing and owned race horses for many years. Above all, Gary cherished time spent with his family, particularly his grandchildren. He loved attending their sporting events and watching them play. He truly enjoyed the memories shared with them.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Janice Dickerson; Brother-in-law, Merle Lister; the mother of his children, Billie Brittingham; and his Grandmother, Anna Hitchens, who he had a very special relationship with.
He is survived by his children, Brent Brittingham (Renee) and Lori Brittingham (Matt Albano); his grandchildren, Ava Albano and Luca Albano; his sisters, Fran Lister and Connie Mitchell (Barry); and a host of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, Delaware 19966.
Gary will be remembered for his strong work ethic, the love he had for his family and the many friendships he made throughout his life.
