Gary Douglas Long's Obituary
Mr. Gary D. Long of Millsboro, DE passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2023. He was 81 years old.
He was born on December 13, 1941, in Dover, DE to the late Milton F. and Linda J. Murray Long. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by a grandson Chad Christopher Long.
Gary retired after approximately 25 years as a car salesman for Boulevard Ford in Georgetown, DE. During this time, he made many friends, repeat customers and acquaintances. He worked in sales all his life and was also a partner in the former B & E Market of Rehoboth Beach. After retirement he and his wife Kathy enjoyed traveling in their RV, cruising, boating, and fishing. Gary was a regular attendee of “The Cousins Luncheon” of the descendants of Jonathan Long. He was known to be of a gentle nature just like his father. Gary was devoted to his wife and family and will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 38 years, Kathleen Burris Long of Millsboro, DE; two sons, Christopher D. Long (Susan) of Lewes, DE and Randall D. Long (Phyllis) of Milton, DE, and one sister Patricia Ash (William) of Lewes, DE. Gary also leaves behind two grandchildren: Stephanie Wyatt (Trip) of Milton, DE, and Randall D. Long, II of Riley, NC as well as one great grandson Donovan Chad Wyatt of Milton, DE and his beloved canine companion Ollie who would accompany Gary on the golf cart around the neighborhood. Gary is also survived by extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, DE 19966, where friends may visit from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Worcester County Humane Society, 12330 Eagles Nest Road, Berlin, MD 21811.
