George William Czerny, Sr.'s Obituary
George William Czerny Sr., of Millsboro, DE affectionally known as “Pop” by his children and grandchildren, was peacefully called home to be with the Lord Wednesday, December 31, 2025. He was 78.
Born on July 15, 1947 to the late Edward and Dorothy (Holden) Czerny, of Minquadale, George was the youngest of 6 loving and caring siblings: Joan Blunt, Edward “Buzzy”, Zella Lewis, James and Robert “Bobby”, who all called him “Georgie” even in his older years. He was preceded in death by his siblings Joan, James and Robert, and is survived by Edward “Buzz” and Zella Lewis.
Before retiring, George was a hard-working and dedicated driver and mechanic who enjoyed his long career with Petrillo Bros. Concrete, where his co-workers fondly called him “Billy Jack” or “Indian”. To the end, he would get excited when he passed a concrete truck, or construction in progress.
George was fortunate to have had two loves in his life. He married his first love Barbara Ann in June of 1966. Together they raised three children and three grandchildren before Barbara passed away in 2008. Blessed in love again, George married his second wife Candace in September 2014, and fully enjoyed years of boating, traveling, camping, and countless gatherings with family and friends. He is survived by his very loving and devoted wife Candy, whom he loved and cherished to the very end.
George was a very loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle. He leaves behind his three children: daughter, Tracy Czerny, son James Czerny, his wife April, George Czerny Jr., his wife Billie; eight grandchildren: Daniel Czerny, his wife Johnnielynn, John “Jake” Czerny, his fiancé Katie Craft, Nathan “Nate” Phinney, his wife Mallory, Bridget Weatherwalk, her fiancé Jr Smith, Jerimiah, Andrew Czerny, Evan Czerny, and Levi; two great granddaughters: Savannah and Ava, and one on the way Charmaine Grace, as well as a host of nephews and nieces. He loved his dogs as well and would always feed them scraps from the table every chance he got because if he was “starving to death”, they were also “starving to death”.
George was especially proud to be a retired National Guard Veteran. He was a proud American and enjoyed his time serving our country. He would spend some of his later birthdays at Bethany Beach visiting the National Guard Trading Center there. He also enjoyed camping at the Virginia Beach campground where he and Candy loved watching the troops march by the camper and almost feel like he was part of it again.
George loved riding his motorcycle, traveling to the tropics, boating, camping, the beach, and socializing with his friends at AmVets of Millsboro, American Legion, the Moose, or at home with a multitude of friends and family. Even though there wasn’t too much that he would take from a stranger, he was very well loved by so many people he met. George loved having his family together and his good-hearted passion for being with everyone, his smile and laughter will forever be missed.
