GERALD LEE BURTON, SR's Obituary
Obituary of Mr. Gerald Burton Gerald Lee Burton, Sr., 82, of Dagsboro passed away at home on May 23, 2015. He was born on April 8, 1933 in Millsboro, DE to the late Harry J. and Etta Layfayette Roberts Burton. He was retired from General Foods, and had also worked at Townsend's and Vlasic in a long career as a laboratory technician. He was a veteran of the Korean War, and had served in the US Army. Awards conferred on him by the military included two bronze stars. He also served in the Army reserves giving a total of eight years of service to the country. He liked to paint, did gardening, and especially loved easel painting. He was devoted to family and church, and church was a big part of his life. He was a very happy man, and had affection for fruitcake, which he shared with his family. He is survived by his wife, Dorena V. Burton, and three children: Felecia Burton, of Dagsboro; Gerald Burton, Jr., of Dagsboro; and Brian Burton and his wife Lorraine, of Millsboro. He is also survived by two sisters: Mary Ann Atkins, of Millsboro; and Patsy Oliver (and husband, Norman) of Salisbury, MD; and a brother: Frederick Burton (and wife, Gertrude) of Whaleyville, MD. Gerald was preceded by three brothers: Robert; Elwood; and Irvin, and a sister: Doris Hall. He has one grandchild: Allison Burton, and a great grandchild: Jarron Burton. A funeral service and Celebration of His Life will be held at Dickerson Chapel, AME on Rt 113 in Millsboro on Monday, June 1, 2015 at Noon. Friends may call one hour prior for a viewing.
