Gertrude V. Kollock's Obituary
Gertrude V. Kollock, affectionately known by all as "Gertie': entered eternal rest on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, in Fairhope, Alabama.
Born October 14, 1948, in Frankford, DE, she was the daughter of the late, John E. Waples, Sr. and Mary Hazel E. McCray-Waples.
Gertrude was united in Holy matrimony in 1966 to Ernest L. Kollock, Sr., from that union they were blessed with four children.
Gertrude enjoyed watching westerns, thrift shopping, traveling, attending family functions, spending time with her great grandchildren, playing cards, hitting the casinos (work as she called it), and simply being the center of attention. Gertie prided herself on family and strived to ensure all her family knew she loved them. She looked forward to the annual Frankford Camp meeting at Antioch. Gertie worked as a Weigh Master at Townsend/Mountaire for 40 years from which she proudly retired.
In addition to Gertrude's parents, she is proceeded in death by her husband, Ernest L. Kollock, Sr., three brothers and one sister: William "Bill" Waples, Cornelia M. Waples-Henry, George H. Waples, and Edmund Waples Sr..
Gertrude will be lovingly remembered by her four children: G. Bernadette Kollock {Micheal), Ernest L. Kollock., Paul L. Kollock, and Dana L. Kollock. Also by her siblings: Joseph T. Waples, Sr. (Ola), John E. Waples, Jr. (Princella), Bradford Waples, Sr. (Debra), Edward Waples (Belinda), Melchizedek Waples, Sr. (Jacqueline), and Felisa Hazzard (Granville). Her grandchildren: Mark Kollock {Amanda), Brittany Kollock, Da'netrea Kollock, Zakiya Armwood, Dameka Hopkins, Miranda Foskey (Chase), Shardae Bailey, Mariah Kollock, Zynaire Darden, Destiny Copes, and Riauna Major. She has 15 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
She will be especially missed by her favorite Aunt; Joyce "Doll" McCray, best friend, Betty Foreman {Allen), close friends, Betty Kellam and Tangie Sanders, bonus daughters: Vanita Myles, Cheryl Workman (Dennis) and Takisha Tunnell, bonus sons, Don Carlos Henderson, Vernen Owens{Aleatha),Michael Carruthers, Wendell St. Cyr, bonus grandchildren; LaJasmine Epps, Alisha Carthan, Shanice, Nathan and Nathaniel Tunnell a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that she adored greatly.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at the Antioch AME Church, 194 Clayton Ave., Frankford, DE 19945. The visitation will be from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Zoar Golden Acres.
