Goldie Lavern Showell Tankard's Obituary
Goldie Lavern Showell Tankard, 69, of Dagsboro, DE, departed this life on October 24, 2024, surrounded by her loving children. She was born on March 1, 1955, to the late Conwell Showell, Sr. and Mary Sue Tingle.
Lavern attended and graduated from Indian River High School in Frankford, DE. Lavern operated her own cleaning business for many years and later transitioned into home health care.
She had a tender heart, loving spirit and showed great compassion for others. Lavern was an exceptional mom and an incredible role model for both of her children. She worked hard to provide for her kids whom she loved with all her heart. Her children are very proud of the woman that she was and all that she had accomplished.
She found great joy in aerobics in her youth and continued to enjoy gardening and crafting in her later years. Lavern was the proud owner of her very own Harley Davidson and enjoyed riding with her family. Obtaining her motorcycle license was a momentous accomplishment for Lavern and taught her several important lessons, one of them being, “if you study and try hard you can do anything.” She also loved to dance, especially to the Electric Slide. Her fun-loving spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Conwell Showell, Sr. and Mary Sue Tingle; siblings, Delema Mitchell, Constance Mann and Harry Tingle.
Lavern will be forever remembered by her children, Brandon Tankard and Brandy Tankard of Dagsboro, DE; step-daughter Tamisha Tankard-Hargrove of Augusta, GA; father of her children, James Tankard of Salisbury, MD; her loving siblings, Annette (Victor) Street of Millsboro, DE, Denise Showell of Selbyville, DE, Rick (Darlene) Showell and brother-in-law Edgar (Teresa) Mitchell of Millsboro, DE; aunt, Vita Savage of Selbyville, DE, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
