As I was organizing the Historical Society, Mayor Gordon Wood gave us his unconditional support and encouragement to preserving the town’s history and culture. Without his backing, I’m not sure the Historical society would exist today. In my opinion,Gordon was the leading expert on Ocean View’s rich history. The book “Letters to the Little Ones” that Gordon wrote is not only example of research skills but the love he had for his ancestors and the town. In my opinion, this book should be encouraged reading for any resident living in Ocean View.
I only regret, that the Historical Society did not interview and record Gordon and utilize the knowledge he possessed. Gordon, thank you for the legacy you left to the people of Ocean View to discover. May you rest in peace as the OVHS honors your contribution by maintaining the Historical Village and through the programs it sponsors. If it were not for your hours of research, we would not know how the name Ocean View came into existence. Again thank you Gordon Wood for bringing the history of our town to our collective understanding.
So very sad to hear of Gordon’s passing he was a wonderful human being. Fair and honest I met Gordon when he was the Mayor of Ocean View and enjoyed many conversations with him. Sending hugs and prayers to his family and friends.

We met Gordon,Pat , Susan and Tom in China in 2005. He was an intrepid traveler and planned great adventures.We followed him to Uganda and Ruwanda to see the gorillas and then to Israel and later to Cambodia and Viet Nam. Our fondest memory is of him folding his big frame into the front seat of an old Toyota after our guide’s truck broke down in rural Africa. Pat was in the back seat with us and Gordon thought he had scored a good seat at shot gun. To his and our surprise our even taller African guide opened the front door and sat on Gordon’s lap for the long bumpy ride to our hotel on the Nile River.
