Harry S. Houston, Sr.'s Obituary
Harry S. Houston, Sr., a cherished resident of Millsboro, DE, passed away peacefully at home on September 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 88 years old.
Born on November 8, 1936, in Millsboro, DE, he was the son of the late Henry and Hazel (Nelson) Houston. A proud graduate of William C. Jason Comprehensive High School, he went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Air Force. After his service, Harry dedicated many years of his life to working at DuPont before retiring. He enjoyed staying active, so he also dedicated his spare time to driving the school bus for Indian River School District, bringing joy and safety to countless children. His passion for this role reflected his caring nature and warmth he shared with everyone he met.
Harry enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, including watching NASCAR races and traveling, but his greatest joy came from the time spent with his family. Whether it was outside conversing under the tree, or picking crabs with his great and grandchildren, or finding the coolest toy to share with the little ones, he created lasting memories that will be held dear by all who knew him. While he may not have been the type to express affection through hugs and kisses, he demonstrated his love in profound ways- through unwavering support and always being there for his family and friends during both joyous and challenging times.
Harry is reunited in spirit with his parents Henry & Hazel, his beloved wife, Kathleen Purnell Houston, and his siblings Henry Houston, William Beckett, Ruth Rickards, and Mildred Beckett .
Harry is survived by his children, Harry Houston Jr and Lisa Houston ; his grandchildren, Tanisha Houston-Gaines, Brandon Clark, Michael Pritchett, Chyna Pritchett (Rashan) ; his great-grandchildren, Mikai Pritchett, Justin Yancey, Camden Pritchett-Price, Arianna Shorter, Jalen Shorter, Brionna Clark, and Khadeem Gaines; as well as cherished nieces and nephews , Shirley Roberts (Brian), Gloria Duffy (Bill), and Benjamin Beckett (Lisa) and many other relatives and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
A public viewing will be held for Mr. Houston on Monday, September 15, 2025, from 11:00AM to 12:00PM at Watson Funeral Home & Crematorium, 211 S. Washington Street, Millsboro, DE 19966.
