Herman B. Parsons Jr.'s Obituary
Herman B. Parsons, Jr. of Ft. Myers, FL and formerly of Millsboro, DE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at the age of 86. He was surrounded by his beloved wife and daughters at the time of his passing.
Born on May 21, 1939, in Georgetown, DE, he was the son of the late Herman B. Parsons, Sr., and Betty Virginia Torbert Parsons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Bryan Keith Parsons, Sr. as well as three sisters: Doris Coleman, Betty Sapp, and Esther Curtis-Roberts.
Mr. Parsons worked at Arrow Safety Device right after graduating from Georgetown High School, class of 1957. After that, he dedicated his career to the Delaware Department of Corrections, retiring after 32 years, as Captain.
A proud veteran, he honorably served as a member of the Delaware Army National Guard for 23 years, being deployed nationally and internationally. He retired with an honorable discharge with rank of Staff Sergeant in 1980.
He enjoyed dinner theaters, putting jigsaw puzzles together with Greta, going to the movies, collecting coins, model cars, and steins. He loved traveling and taking cruises, with one of his fondest memories being a European cruise during which he and his beloved wife, Greta, renewed their wedding vows on their 50th anniversary. Mr. Parsons loved playing the piano, dancing, and cheering for both the Baltimore Orioles and the Tampa Bay Rays, often attending games in person. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family.
Mr. Parsons is survived by his devoted wife of more than 68 years, Greta Parsons of Ft. Myers, FL; two daughters, Debbra Karen Parsons of Salisbury, MD, and Kathy Parsons Sanchez of Georgetown, DE; nine grandchildren: Jeffry Rowe, Jr., Dana Heath, Curtis Pierce, Rebecca Wivell, Natalie Parsons, Katelin Parsons, Jason Pierce, Bryanna Parsons, and Bryan Parsons, Jr.; as well as seventeen great-grandchildren.
He will be remembered for his dedication to Greta, being a good father, and grandfather. Also, for telling the best Dad/Poppop jokes. These like him will be very missed.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Watson Funeral Home & Crematorium, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, DE 19966, a public viewing will begin at 10:00 AM. Interment will immediately follow at Millsboro Cemetery.
