James J. Harley III
(1946-2017)
James J. Harley III, 71, of Millsboro, Delaware, formerly of Rockville Centre, New York, passed away on August 20, 2017 in Delaware Hospice after a very sudden cancer diagnosis. He was born to the late James and Frances Harley, Jr. on July 16, 1946 in Brooklyn, NY.
Jim was the beloved husband of Gale with whom he was about to celebrate forty-nine years of marriage in September 2017. Gale was the love of Jim's life from the moment they met at a church dance at the age of fourteen. They have three children, Laura Dunne and her husband, Terrence, James J. Harley IV and his wife, Samantha and Erin Anderson and her husband, Michael. His ten grandchildren, Kylie, Conor, Sarah, Patrick, Jack, Logan, Beckett, Noelle, Sean and Ryan, filled his life with pure joy.
Jim retired in 2013 after a successful career in the insurance industry that spanned over fifty years. He was highly esteemed and respected by his colleagues, mentoring many along the way.
Jim was a member of the Mary Mother of Peace parish since retiring to Delaware and was formerly a member of St. Agnes Cathedral parish of Rockville Centre.
In addition to his wife and children, Jim is survived by his beloved siblings, Frances Lauve and her husband, George, Gerard Harley and his wife, Joan and sister-in-law, Mary Harley. He was pre-deceased by his older brother, Thomas Harley. Jim was greatly loved by many nieces and nephews and his entire extended family. They will always treasure his elaborate stories and hearty laugh.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 6 PM - 9 PM at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, DE 19966. The funeral mass will be 11 AM on Friday, August 25, 2017 at Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church, 30839 Mt. Joy Rd. Millsboro, Delaware.
