Janny "Rie" Albertini Rietje Konings Smith age 90, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, Delaware.
Born on February 5, 1936, in Groningen, Netherlands, Janny was the daughter of the late Jan Gerhard Konings and Geertruida Carolina (Rakhorst) Konings.
Throughout her years in America, Janny carved out a remarkable career in insurance sales, earning recognition as a top agent and winning a prestigious trip to Hawaii for her success.
Janny's heart always remained connected to her European roots. She adored Aruba, where the Dutch language and culture felt like home, and she deeply missed her family abroad. Yet she created her own warm legacy here, hosting her beloved nephews during their visits to the United States with genuine joy. At home, she found solace in tending to her garden with care and attention, and she enjoyed a good glass of red wine.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Edwin "Surf" Smith, III.
She is survived by her daughter, Tanja Giles; her granddaughters, Corinna, Stephannie, and Shawnna; her brother, Bert Konings (wife Arja and son Gerald and his family); her sister, Johanna "Joke" Baas (husband Pep and sons Marc and Walter and their families).
In accordance with her wishes, she will be laid to rest in her native Netherlands.
