Jennifer Lynn Scutari's Obituary
Jennifer Lynn Scutari (Jen)
February 22, 1970 – March 9, 2025
Jennifer Lynn Scutari (Jen), of Millsboro, Delaware, passed away peacefully at home on March 9, 2025, after a courageous two-year hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 55 years old.
Jen was born in Lafayette, Louisiana, on February 22, 1970, to Paul and Sandra (Comeaux) Proteau. Her early years were spent at Mount Vernon College in Washington, D.C., before she and her family moved to Arlington, Virginia, where she grew up surrounded by her three siblings, Paula Vonasek (Jeff), Julie Thomas (Greg) and Gregory Proteau (Amanda). From a young age, Jen had a passion for flowers, playing outdoors, and spending time with family and friends. She also loved playing soccer, a sport that would remain close to her heart.
Jen attended Nottingham Elementary School, Williamsburg Middle School, and Yorktown High School in Arlington, Virginia. After graduating from Yorktown, she went on to attend Le Moyne College in Syracuse, New York, where she received a partial soccer scholarship and earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Jen later pursued a career in nursing, earning her nursing degree from Crouse School of Nursing, followed by her Bachelor of Nursing.
While living in Syracuse, Jen met the love of her life, Michael (Mike) Scutari. They were married on June 25, 1994, and were blessed with two sons, Jarrod and Lucas. Jen played an active role in the community, helping with their children’s co-op preschool, while also working as a nurse at Upstate Medical. Later, she transitioned into health coaching and counseling.
Jen and Mike moved to Millsboro, Delaware, after their sons were in college. There, they settled just 30 minutes from Jen’s parents and quickly became an integral part of their new community. They joined St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, the Georgetown Millsboro Rotary, and the Georgetown Chamber, where they formed lasting friendships and contributed to numerous local causes. Jen’s commitment to service and her generous spirit made a positive impact on everyone she met.
Jen’s final days were filled with love and care, surrounded by family and friends, with the support of Delaware Hospice. Her legacy of compassion, strength, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Michael Scutari of Millsboro, DE; their loving sons, Jarrod Scutari of Syracuse, NY, and Lucas Scutari of East Providence, RI; her parents, Paul and Sandra Proteau of Ocean View, DE; her sisters, Paula Vonasek (Jeff) of Annandale, VA, and Julie Thomas (Greg) of Oakton, VA; and her brother, Gregory Proteau (Amanda) of Portland, OR. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Rose Insalaco (Michael) and Antoinette Abdo (Curt), both of Syracuse, NY; her brother-in-law, Pasquale Scutari, Jr. (Shannon) of Skaneateles, NY; as well as several nieces, nephews, and great nieces.
A celebration of life will be held in the near future. Dates and locations to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Delaware Hospice or St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Millsboro, DE in Jen’s memory.
