JEROME BECKETT's Obituary
Jerome Beckett, 64 of Frankford, DE died suddenly Friday, March 13, 2015 at Beebe Medical Center. Born May 18, 1950 in Philadelphia, PA he was the son of William H. Beckett Sr. and Anna Andrews Beckett, of Frankford. Jerome, affectionately nicknamed ""Roney"", graduated in 1968 from John M. Clayton High School. After high school, Roney worked various jobs until he began his career with Oriole Chemical Carriers in Delaware City, having worked 19 plus years before retiring in 2008. After retirement, Jerome began driving a school bus for the Indian River School District, servicing Millsboro Middle School. During the summer months, he worked as a bus driver for the Ocean City Department of Transportation. In 2005, Jerome was honored with the prestigious award of Delaware State Driver of the Year, recognized in part for achieving one million miles accident free. During his retirement years Jerome thoroughly enjoyed driving the school bus and spending time twice a day with his student riders. He was a proud member of Union Wesley United Methodist Church in Clarksville, which he fondly referred to as his ""little church"", where he served as an usher, member of the men's choir and the President of United Methodist Men. Jerome is preceded in death by his father, William H. Beckett Sr., and all three siblings, William H. Beckett Jr., Clarence E. Beckett Sr. and Linda Beckett, who was his twin and died in infancy. He is survived by his mother Anna Andrews Beckett of Frankford, his wife of 42 years, Lucy McCray Beckett, also of Frankford. Two children, Stanley J. Beckett Sr. of Frankford and Pamela Beckett Barrett (Daniel) of Millsboro and three grandchildren Brent, Stanley Jr. and Breanna. He is also survived by two aunts Roberta Snead of San Antonio, TX., and Mildred Beckett of Millsboro. Three sisters in law Charlotte Barnett (Richard) of Newark, Estheleta Beckett of Millsboro and Dorothy Beckett of Wilmington. Two brothers in law Walter McCray Jr. (Ruth) and William McCray (Reba), both of Frankford, DE., his uncle Harry Houston (Kathleen) of Millsboro, DE Along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of close friends. Services will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Union Wesley United Methodist Church, 32137 Powell Farm Rd., Clarksville, DE. A viewing will be held from 10am-12pm, the funeral service will begin at noon. Rev. Peggy Briggs will be the Officiating Pastor. Interment will be held immediately following the funeral at Antioch A.M.E. Church on Clayton Ave in Frankford. Letters of condolence may be emailed via www.watsonfh.com
