Jerry Wayne Lathbury's Obituary
Jerry Wayne Lathbury, 74, of Frankford, Delaware, passed away on April 17, 2026. He was born on January 25, 1952, in Lewes, Delaware, the son of the late Walter Samuel and Elsie Marie (Hudson) Lathbury.
Jerry dedicated many years of his life working as a custodian at Sussex Central Middle School, where he was known for his strong work ethic and friendly nature. He was always the first to arrive and always known for keeping the ball fields pristine. In addition to his work at the school, he also served his community as a fireman and proudly served his country in the National Guard. He was a lifetime member of the Frankford Vol. Fire Company.
In addition to his work at the school, he helped with the family business and spent a great deal of time with small motor repairs. In his free time, Jerry enjoyed fishing, sporting clays, NASCAR, riding his motorcycle, and stock car racing. A true jack of all trades with a fine eye to details, he found great joy in woodworking and owned every tool you could think of.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Brenda Messick, and his beloved wife of 50 years, Flora Patricia Lathbury,
Jerry is survived by his daughter, Stacey Grez and her husband, Nick, and granddaughter Keelie, of Millsboro, Delaware. Brother David Lathbury and wife Donna, Sister Peggy Morris and husband Wayne and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Millsboro Cemetery in Millsboro, Delaware.
Jerry will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his service to his country and community, and his ability to fix just about anything.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jerry’s name to Frankford Vol. Fire Company.
